Behind the Scenes of our Team Trip: Inside Look at the Best Luxury Resorts in Riviera Maya
As travel advisors, we thrive off of helping couples and families make new memories and being a part of celebratory milestones. But another perk that we love are FAM (familiarization) trips!
FAMs help us experience firsthand the destinations and accommodations we recommend to our clients.
These curated trips allow us to personally experience the quality, service and unique amenities that resorts and vendors have to offer. We’re able to build relationships with hotel staff and local experts which in turns helps our clients receive the best service and exclusive offers!
At the heart of it all, our goal is simple: to ensure your travels are nothing short of extraordinary, leaving you with cherished moments that last a lifetime.
So when our team returned from our Cancun FAM in August 2024 we knew we needed to come home and write all about it.
Here’s all the scoop!
Stop #1 - Waldorf Astoria Cancun
The Waldorf Astoria is a quick 15-minute ride from the Cancun airport and is a great option for couples, incentive trips, and corporate groups.
We were greeted by the kindest front desk staff and our concierge took us to our stunning oceanfront room!
The food and service were impeccable at this resort and we truly felt like VIPs during our stay.
Some of our favorite restaurants are the Waldorf Astoria Cancun:

What to do:
What better team-building exercise than a margarita-making class?
It was a blast learning about different types of tequila and blending our frozen margaritas using a bicycle! Psst, a little tip when making margaritas: use fresh limes and splurge on the good tequila, preferably one where that is 100% agave. We used Siete Machos Blanco.
Get rejuvenated at the spa for hydrotherapy and massages.
The spa at the Waldorf is so dreamy! It’s huge and worth every penny.
Their signature spa experience is inspired by blending Yaxché or Tree of Life for the Mayan culture, with the use of the healing stones and the Mayan cosmovision.
Sip & Paint
We continued the fun with some wine and painting! Highly recommend.
Stop #2 - Banyan Tree Mayakoba
The Banyan Tree Mayakoba is known for its natural setting. It truly is a one of kind that provides tranquility, fun and a unique experience
This resort is a great choice for families and/or couples who are looking for a unique experience at a great value. Even their “standard” categories are elevated with style and are very spacious.
Stop #3 - Nizuc Site Inspection (VIP tour of the resort)
The Nizuc resort is a foodie paradise and has some of the best food.
They even “branded” our dessert with homemade logos 😍. The sushi was ahhhmazing and everything was fresh and tasted like Michelin star.
Pro Tip: Book the room category with the private pool! It has its own courtyard for complete privacy.
Honeymooners would love this resort even though it’s not adult-only. There’s an adult-only pool and beach club that is secluded and exclusive. Stars John Travolta and famous athletes frequent here all the time.
Stop #4 - Grand Velas Riviera Maya
The Grand Velas Riviera Maya has been a staple for families, groups, and couples for years! The amount of variety that this resort offers is unreal.
If you’re an adventurous eater, try Frida for the chance to indulge in crickets, worms, and antsy, they say they’re good for you and are packed with protein.
We’re pretty sure that they have the largest spa in Mexico! You can spend all day there.
Our team was able to enjoy a water ceremony where we had access to the sauna, color therapy steam room, scrub room, ice room, sensation showers, hot tub, cold plunge, and jacuzzis. Like we said - huge, but we’re not complaining.
In short, Cancun & Riviera Maya is an excellent destination to get pampered, indulge in delicious food and drinks, and be treated like a VIP.
This trip was truly special and will forever be remembered. It was the first time that our team had been together in one place. We are so grateful for the opportunity to visit these magical places, learn more, and share our expertise with our clients.
